Blast from the past with Coleman attorney Ben Ginsburg

by Joe Bodell on April 21, 2009

In case anyone’s unclear on Norm Coleman’s motivations in dragging this spurious election contest out even further, here’s a blast from the past from his lead attorney, Florida 2000 veteran Ben Ginsberg:

[t]his reminds me of a speech Coleman’s attorney, Ben Ginsberg, gave a few years ago while I was still in law school.  In that speech, Ginsberg candidly admitted that (link is an old Real Player file.  Quote is at 38:52):
Just like, really, with the Voting Rights Act, Republicans have some fundamental philosophical difficulties with the whole notion of Equal Protection.

Ben Ginsberg:  keeping it real.

I’m trying to confirm a rumor that Ginsberg is so gung-ho about preventing political participation by minorities and poor people that he named his dog Gerrymander. Will let you know what I find out.

More seriously, here’s to hoping the state Supreme Court recognizes snake oil when they smell it.
