This summer, Senator Terri Bonoff spoke with Democratic Visions host Tim O’Brien mostly about education.  Democratic Visions is Minnesota’s best looking and sounding TV venue for lefties.  It is produced by volunteers through DFL Senate District 48.  Here’s the link to the Senator Bonoff segment:…

I figured that Terri Bonoff talking about education would be something produced by Republicans, because that is who she votes with on education issues.

Whenever a moderner reformer starts out with “From my experience in business…..” You know they don’t understand education. Students are not uniform raw materials, being evenly and blindly distributed to workers, to be made into uniform widgets. The idea that helping to build a functioning human being is anything like making a pair of Nike’s is ridiculous.

Secondly, Bonoff states that 99% of teachers are fabulous. So, really, with all the different things we can fight like mad over, all the battles we can go after. Early childhood funding, smaller class sizes, better pre-service training and on and on, she chooses to go to war over something that will affect 1% of the labor force?

Seriously, justify the efforts thrown into tenure reform with the reward. There are things that might help 100% of the labor force, but she goes after something that affects, by her own admission, 1%. Maybe if there was nothing else wrong, sure, but is this the most effective use of our efforts?

How is it bold to promote A.L.E.C. education legislation, but run away from fully funding kindergarten and targeted funding for preK?

Look, I am boldly sided with the big bully of education reform and hiding from what works. Huh?
