Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) continues to blame President Obama for the high gas prices. Personally, I blame speculators. But I live in a reality-based world and read.
In Bachmann’s world, facts and causation don’t quite matter so much. However, scoring political points regardless of the truth of the claim is a high priority.
One of the few journalists in the mainstream media who will point out that Bachmann is lying, is WCCO’s Pat Kessler. He analyzed (a foreign concept for MN journalists when it comes to Bachmann) her claims about gas prices. He labeled her claim as questionable.
However, blaming the president – or any president – for the cost of gasoline is QUESTIONABLE.
Gas prices WERE $1.84 a gallon when Obama took office, and $3.94 now.
It happened to President George W. Bush, too.
Gas prices WERE $1.51 when Bush took office, and a record high $4.12 in 2008.
It’s great politics for sure, but it’s evidence Presidents cannot control oil prices.
