MN-08 straw poll returns

by The Big E on February 8, 2012 · 5 comments

For anyone curious about the only competitive straw poll race in Minnesota (and no, I don’t mean the Santorum oozing its way across our state), I have some details about the MN-08 DFL race to see who will face Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-MN/NH). Who might reign supreme and win back Jim Oberstar’s seat?

I have obviously unofficial results, but the information I have is:

Time 10:30PM
50% reporting

Jeff Anderson – 45%
Rick Nolan – 41%
Tarryl Clark – 8%

Duluth and Ely results are strong for Anderson. The western precincts from around Brainerd are in for Nolan. Apparently, Anderson and Nolan are pretty evenly splitting the southern precincts.

Stay tuned …

Jeff won St. Louis County.  That is who will win this race.  Nolan can nickel and dime the rest of the district but the winner of this race is who wins Duluth, Cloquet, Eveleth, Virginia, Chisholm, Hibbing and the rest of the Range.  Anderson won them all.  Most of them 2 to 1.  Game over.  Sorry folks, the underdog is now the big dog.  The Range and Duluth solidified behind Anderson. Enjoy!

It turns out the Iron Ranger and Duluthian can carry it.

The precinct caucus I attended last night ended with 5-Nolan, 1-Clark, and 2-undecided. That is decidedly less than a 2-1 count in favor of Anderson. And granted, you didn’t list Gilbert and McKinley in your post, but we do qualify as “the rest of the Range.”
So, show us a link to the results you are promoting, or I’m going to have to assume you are working on the Anderson campaign.

Latest update I’ve seen from MPR:

“Districts are still reporting results, but Nolan has so far picked up 1531 votes. Duluth City Council member Jeff Anderson received 991 votes. Former state Sen. Tarryl Clark received 406 votes. At least 262 voters said they were uncommitted.”

And I’m pretty sure The Big E is covering the Anderson campaign, not necessarily supporting it. Regardless, he’s always been fair.

My post was directed at HippieFred.  I’m sorry for the confusion.
