A couple years ago, Bill Clinton noted that everyone who bet against America ended up losing money over the long run.
While I respect the sentiment, the statement has been proven false time and time again by Washington Republicans.
With their enablers on Capitol Hill and in state Capitols doing the dirty work, people like the Koch brothers are getting rich … by betting against America.
It’s time to stop pulling punches and call this what it is: anti-American.
Yes, for the first time in my life, I’m quoting Michele Bachmann. I wish there was a way around it, but facts are facts.
It is anti-American to attack the right to unionize.
It is anti-American to hold jobless benefits hostage in exchange for giveaways to the rich.
It is anti-American to deny veterans the benefits they have earned.
It is anti-American to play politics with disaster relief.
And it is anti-American to threaten to pull the plug on Social Security and Medicare.
The United States was never a great country because those with the most could get even more.
The essence of America is that those with little have always had a fair shot to make a better life.
Today, however, that core value is under threat … not by a foreign enemy, but instead by fat cat politicians doing the bidding of those who couldn’t care less about what happens on Main Streets across our country.
I’m running for Congress because I still believe in America.
I’m running for Congress because I think a strong America — one where everyone has a shot at succeeding — is the greatest force for good in the world.
I’m running for Congress because I refuse to believe it’s time for our country to fade into the dark.
But I can’t do it alone. I’m going up against Erik Paulsen — a well-funded incumbent who votes just like Bachmann, our fellow Minnesotan.
